The R/3 System has been designed with the user always in mind. Although the program has to be sufficiently complex to handle a wide range of management tasks, it remains user friendly.
It uses windows techniques, which you may already be familiar with. This enables more than one task to be carried out at the same time.
All R/3 modules are menu driven. This will enable you to navigate easily through the system.
R/3 applications contain graphical objects. You can tell their function at a glance - and this saves you time.
Although R/3 contains a large number of modules, you will probably only need to use a smaller, easily controlled part of the system.
You will only have access to the parts of R/3 that you need. This is controlled through authorization profiles allocated by your system administrator. Access can be expanded or reduced as your needs change.
In order to handle a wide range of business tasks, R/3 has to be a very complex program. However, you will find that features such as windows, menus and graphical objects make it very easy to use.
You do not need to know how R/3 works in order to use it. However, it is still worth spending a little time looking at the parts played by the main components of the system.
There are four main components within the R/3 System. First there are the application modules. As you know, it is these modules that you work with directly on the screen.
The remaining three components are the Interfaces, the Basis System and SAP Technology. The Basis System is also known as the Kernel.
